After the Australian Open, which was as surprising as it was disappointing for Ashleigh Barty in the quarter-finals against Karolina Muchova, the world number one made a short stop in Adelaide. But things didn't go well there either, Barty lost her first match against Danielle Collins. Immediately afterwards, the 25-year-old had to decide when and for how long to say goodbye to her family. The answers: rather soon. And rather for longer.
Because Ashleigh Barty has not set foot on Australian soil since mid-March, probably also due to the fact that multiple major champions are not exempt from the tough quarantine measures when entering Down Under. So Barty and Coach Craig Tyzzer got used to living out of a suitcase for six months at an early stage. And started her world tour in Miami.
Barty wins in Miami and Stuttgart
With a view to the current WTA world rankings hardly imaginable, but: In Florida, Barty's top position in the charts was on the brink, if the tournament had not gone well Naomi Osaka would have taken the lead. The Japanese, however, was eliminated against Maria Sakkari, Barty defended the title she won in 2019 by beating Bianca Andreescu in the final. The move to Charleston and thus to the green sands was not entirely satisfactory. Judging by the recent performance of Paula Badosa, Barty's elimination against the Spaniard in the quarter-finals should not be rated as bad at all.
Especially since the next sense of achievement followed a few days later in Stuttgart: Barty won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix with three three-set wins en suite. The last victim was Aryna Sabalenka, who would then return the favor in Madrid in the final. Rome and Paris were only partially worth a trip for Ashleigh Barty, with both tournaments she had to give up due to injuries.
Osaka in Tokyo
Which, in retrospect, she is sure to be happy to accept. Because the latest highlight is the triumph on the sacred lawn of Wimbledon. Barty celebrated with her boyfriend, her physiotherapist and coach Tyzzer on site. Should the industry leader overcome the homesickness by now: The trip through the tennis world is one of the most successful in recent history for women.

Ashleigh Barty will take the travel destinations Tokyo and New York City with possible stops in Canada and Cincinnati after all. At the Olympic Games there could be a reunion with the currently paused, probably greatest challenger Naomi Osaka. Barty skipped the US Open last year. After the Corona break, she focused more on maintaining relationships in her Australian homeland. And obviously drawn so much strength from it that she is currently undisputed at the top of the WTA rankings.
