Disappointing start to the 2023 season for Dominic Thiem: Austria's number one had pulled the hardest possible task in the qualifying draw for the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Adelaide with Soonwoo Kwon. Thiem was still able to calculate his chances. In the end it was 6: 4 and 6: 1 for the South Korean. This will be the first of two 250cc events in Adelaide without Thiem taking part.
Thiem ended the last season after losing against Daniil Medvedev at the Generali Open in Vienna and has been preparing for exhibition fights in Saudi Arabia and Dubai in the past few weeks. For the Australian Open he will probably get a wild card from the organizers.
Novak Djokovic is seeded in first place in Adelaide, starting against Frenchman Constant Lestienne. They are followed by Félix Auger-Aliassime, who starts against a qualifier, and Daniil Medvedev, who faces Lorenzo Sonego.
