With his victory in the quarter-finals of the French Open and the defeat of number one Novak Djokovic , one thing is certain: if Zverev wins the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, he will replace the Serbs in first place next Monday. He would be the second German after Boris Becker at the top in 1991.
Djokovic's reign, on the other hand, will surely come to an end if the points from his previous year's success fall out of the standings in just under two weeks. If Zverev is not enough for the title, the Russian Daniil Medvedev will pass in first place. After all, the Hamburger has already secured second place from June 13th - Zverev has never been so high in the ATP world rankings in his career.
Zverev had prevailed in Roland Garros on Tuesday against 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in four sets, in the semifinals on Friday he will face Rafael Nadal (Spain). The 13-time Paris winner also threw Djokovic out of the tournament in four sets. In a direct duel, Nadal leads against Zverev with 6: 3 victories.
