ATP Antwerp: Local hero Goffin fails
David Goffin has to bow out in the round of 16 in Antwerp. The Belgian loses to the Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 5:7 and 3:6. So the former number 7 in the world continues to tread water.

One round earlier, Goffin was able to convince with a win against Quentin Halys, whom he clearly defeated 6:4, 6:1. But Goffin hardly had a chance in the round of 16. Again against a Frenchman. This time against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. In the end it was 5:7 and 3:6. So Goffin probably won't be able to return to the top 100.

Goffin fell out of the top 100 last week. The 32-year-old is currently ranked 105th in the world rankings. Nevertheless, there is a ray of hope for Belgian tennis fans: this ray of hope goes by the name of Joris De Loore. After reaching the final at the Challenger in Bratislava, he climbed 32 places. De Loore is currently ranked 156th, making him the second best Belgian tennis player.
For David Goffin this means: Even in his own country, where he was the undisputed number 1 for so long, people are hot on his heels.
