At the ATP Masters 1000 level, Indian Wells is a real bank at the ATP Awards: The tournament in California won in its category for the eighth time this year - and thus for the eighth time in a row. "We are honored to have been voted Tournament of the Year by the ATP players for the eighth year in a row," said tournament director Tommy Haas in a broadcast. "We are already working hard to make the 2023 event the best yet for players, fans and visitors from around the world and look forward to welcoming everyone back to tennis paradise in March." And then lay the foundation for your ninth consecutive title win in this category?
After last year's Wiener Erste Bank Open won at ATP 500 level, there is a new winner this season - London's Queen's Club: "It is a recognition of the excellent work of the LTA tournament team and the support of a large number of sponsors, partners and suppliers working so effectively with the LTA, the Queen's Club and the ATP in running the tournament," said the LTA's Chris Pollard. This year, the classic grass field also saw a new attendance record.
Victories for Rune, Nadal & Co
One category lower, at ATP 250 level, the players have chosen a familiar one: the ATP 250 event in Doha. The Qatar ExxonMobil Open has won its category for the fifth time, most recently last year. "This award is a recognition of our team's efforts to evolve, improve and adapt, with a focus on creating a warm and attractive environment where all guests and participants feel welcome, despite the unusual conditions of recent years "said tournament director Karim Alami.
Other winners of the ATP Awards include Andy Murray for his humanitarian achievements, Holger Rune as Newcomer of the Year or Rafael Nadal, who replaced series winner Roger Federer, who retired this season, as "Fan's Favourite". Carlos Alcaraz was chosen as the most improved player, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero is coach of the season. And Borna Coric? He prevailed against Dominic Thiem and, thanks to his first ATP Masters 1000 title win, is the comebacker of the year at the ATP Awards.
