Carlos Alcaraz is still on course towards defending his title at the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona: The world number two from Spain beat his compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut 6: 3 and 7: 5 in the round of 16 and is therefore in the Catalan capital Quarterfinals.
"Roberto is a great player, a really solid player. I had to stay focused all the time, be there all the time and try to take my chances," Alcaraz said after the match. On Friday, the 19-year-old meets Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who defeated Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets.
Ruud lost a clear lead in the first sentence
Shortly after Alcaraz' victory, the spectators in Barcelona got to see another surprise: Casper Ruud, who was in third place, had to admit defeat to Francisco Cerundolo 6:7 (5) and 3:6. In the first set, the French Open finalist from the previous year missed a 5-2 lead and two set balls.
Cerundolo meets Dan Evans in the quarter-finals, who surprisingly easily defeated Karen Khachanov 6: 3 and 6: 4. Evans' compatriot Cameron Norrie, on the other hand, lost to Lorenzo Musetti in three sets. The 21-year-old meets Jannik Sinner in an all-Italian quarter-final, who, like Stefanos Tsitsipas, had already prevailed early on Thursday .
