Ruud won 7: 6 (3), 4: 6 and 7: 6 (1) against Joao Sousa and thus won his eighth title on the ATP tour. Ruud had already won in Buenos Aires this year.
It is Ruud's seventh title on the beloved clay - in Miami, however, he had recently shown himself to be strong on hard court and reached the final, in which he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz.
Cameron Norrie with remarkable streak
At the parallel tournament in Lyon (also a 250), Cameron Norrie had previously confirmed his favorite position. The Briton, seeded first, beat Alex Molcan 6: 3, 6: 7 (3) and 6: 1 in the final and thus won his fourth singles title at ATP level. Norrie had also won at Delray Beach in February.
Norrie continues a remarkable series: He has won all tournaments in which he was the top seeded participant!
For both of them, the direct route is now to Paris, where the French Open will begin tomorrow, Sunday.
