The match started badly for Novak, he had to give up his first service game against the Bosnian. Novak managed to equalize to 4: 4, but the first round went 7: 5 to Dzumhur. In the second set Dennis Novak made short work of it and won 6-1. And stormed in front of the eyes of coach Julian Knowle and double ace Jürgen Melzer in the decision to take a 3-1 lead. Novak defended this on Court 14 in the National Tennis Center in New York City with minor problems - and won after a playing time of almost two hours with 5: 7, 6: 1 and 6: 4.
Aljaz Bedene is waiting for Novak on Friday. The Slovenian was able to prevail against Denis Kudla from the USA with 6: 4 and 7: 5. In the ATP world rankings, Bedene is number 61, 24 ranks better than Novak.
