The Italian, second seeded, had certainly hoped for a better result in front of his home crowd. He won the first set 7:5, in the next two sets 6:7 (5) and 5:7 Caballes Baena won the game. The Italian was only able to convert five of his fourteen break chances; his opponent all five.

Musetti last Italian hope

Roberto Caballes Baena will face Sweden's Mikael Ymer in the quarterfinals. Ymer won her only match of the year at the French Open in five sets. Berrettini will next compete at the Davis Cup in Malaga. In the Race-to-Turin he is only 15th at the moment.

From an Italian point of view, Lorenzo Jusetti is now the only hope. And he hasn't played a match in Florence yet, but has to face Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the round of 16 tomorrow.

The guest appearance of Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler in Florence was short-lived: the Austrian winners of Kitzbühel 2021 lost in round one Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic 4: 6 and 2: 6.
