Casper Ruud confirmed his good form in Geneva

The number one of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Geneva had already said goodbye in the person of Roger Federer at his first appearance, so the title numbers two and three have agreed among each other. And in the end it was Casper Ruud who was able to assert himself in a playfully very good final against Denis Shapovalov with 7: 6 (6) and 6: 4. For Ruud it was the second title after Buenos Aires 2020. Shapovalov, who a few days ago had Rafael Nadal on the verge of defeat in Rome, will remain with a career triumph for the time being. The Canadian got this in 2019 in the hall in Stockholm.

After the balanced first set, the game finally decided in the fifth game of round two: Shapovalov was able to fend off three breakballs before Ruud managed the break to 3-2. After that, Shapovalov was no longer able to get to his opponent. Casper Ruud can now go to the French Open in Paris with a broad chest: He had previously reached the semifinals at the tournaments in Monte Carlo, Munich and Madrid.

Before that, John Peers and Michael Venus had won the double title. In the final, the two veterans defeated Simone Bolelli and Maximo Gonzalez, two players who also have several years of tour experience.
