Matteo Berrettini had won twelve matches in a row after his injury-related break in Stuttgart, London's Queen's Club and in Gstaad. This series has now come to an end against Casper Ruud. Because the Norwegian defending champion prevailed in the fifth duel with Berrettini for the third time, winning 4: 6, 7: 6 (4) and 6: 2. For Ruud it was the ninth title overall, the third of the current season.
Both players didn't spend long with their respective opponents in the semifinals: French Open finalist Ruud only let Albert Ramos-Vinolas, who won the title in Gstaad 2019, win two games. Berrettini, in turn, easily prevailed against Dominic Thiem.
The finalists from Gstaad are now on their way to Kitzbühel. There, too, Casper Ruud and Matteo Berrettini are the two top seeds in the tournament. And Ruud also has to defend last year's title at the Generali Open.
