Star coach Mouratoglou announced yesterday that he will join the team of young Dane Rune. He will act alongside long-term coach Lars Christensen. Mouratoglou is one of the most famous tennis coaches on the scene and stood by Serena Williams from 2012 to 2022. He has been training former world number one Simona Halep since this spring. She had to have an operation on her nose in September because she was suffering from breathing problems. This operation forces her to take a break for several weeks before she can resume training. She will not return to the tour until the start of the 2023 season. Halep encouraged Mouratoglou to start a new collaboration.
Holger Rune already knows Mouratoglou
The 19-year-old, who is 27th in the ATP ranking, met Patrick Mouratoglou for the first time when he was thirteen. The youngster has trained several times at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy near Nice. Williams' ex-coach also congratulated Holger's first ATP victory at this year's BMW Open in Munich, where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. Holger Rune has improved a lot this year. He was only listed at number 103 at the beginning of the year. As a junior, he won the French Open and the youth edition of the year-end game of the ATP Finals, among others.
Mouratoglou as a good choice
It's not just his new player who trains in Mouratoglou's tennis academies. Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas also like to use the facilities. Mouratoglou's charges also included Marcos Baghdatis, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Grigor Dimitrov. The Mouratoglou-Rune duo will open in Stockholm from Monday, after which starts in Basel, Paris-Bercy and at the #NextGen finals in Milan are planned.
