John Isner has already won a singles title in Houston

John Isner did not compete in pair skating in Houston this time. Which is a pity insofar as the American has taken the chance of the very, very rare "Sunshine Triple". Isner first won the title in Indian Wells with Jack Sock, then won in Miami with Hubert Hurkacz. In Houston, the open US clay court championship, Isner is in the semi-finals in singles. And that's after a hard-fought win over Frances Tiafoe.

Like at the start against Steve Johnson, Isner had to go through three sets, beating Tiafoe 6: 4, 2: 6 and 6: 3. And now in the semifinals he meets the man who won the last edition of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Texas in 2019: Cristian Garin. The Chilean played his entry fee with Taylor Fritz for almost three hours and finally won 6:2, 6:7 (5) and 6:3.

Kyrgios continued without a fight

The now 36-year-old has already shown that Isner is a title candidate in Houston: in 2013 he won one of his 16 championships there.

The other two quarter-finals, on the other hand, were comparatively unspectacular. First Reilly Opelka defeated the Dutch qualifier Gijs Brouwer 6:1 and 7:5. And Nick Kyrgios was even more comfortable in the semi-finals: opponent Michael Mmoh could not compete at all.
