Nick Kyrgios' 2022 clay court season will probably be extremely manageable. To be more precise: It will probably only include one tournament. Namely the ATP 250 event in Houston, where the Australian is extending his US trip by a few more nights after the Sunshine Double in Miami and Indian Wells.
In any case, Kyrgios now knew how to prevent an abrupt end in Houston: The 26-year-old had to give up the first round against Mackenzie McDonald from the USA, but ultimately had the upper hand in three sets. In the round of 16, Kyrgios now meets another American: Tommy Paul.
Gojowczyk has to give up, Garin continues
This benefited on Tuesday (local time) from a task from the German Peter Gojowczyk. After a hard fight and two tie-breaks, the 32-year-old had to give up in the third round when the score was 2:3.
Clay court specialist Cristian Garin was also able to prevent an early exit. The Chilean fought a fight worth seeing with local hero Jack Sock, but finally won his second-round ticket with 7:5 in the deciding set. Garin meets Australia's Jordan Thompson in the round of 16.
