After nearly two weeks of training in Indian Wells, the Lower Austrian who fell ill during the season preparation and at the Australian Open felt "fit and fresh" again, as he said before his first assignment in California.

Thiem had last reached the semi-finals in Buenos Aires (ATP 250) and was then eliminated in the first round as defending champion in Rio de Janeiro (500).

"South America has not really gone as I wanted it to now. On the other hand, I also noticed that I lack a bit of training from the blown preparation. But I have the feeling that it is gone now. I have been in here since Rio Indian Wells really trained well for ten, eleven, twelve days and now I feel fit and fresh for the tournament again, "said Thiem.

In Indian Wells, the world ranking eighth meets Australian Jordan Thompson after a walk-through. Thiem is aware that he has to improve in California and then in Miami. "I have a lot of catching up to do. Indian Wells and Miami are very, very important tournaments."

His new second coach Nicolas Massu plays a special role alongside Günter Bresnik. "It is important to hear positive things from someone else that you can add to your game."
