The game started unspectacularly in the first five games. Both opponents played their serve games, and when the score was 2:3, Casper Ruud showed his first lack of concentration and immediately lost his serve with the first break point of the game. Monfils then quickly made it 5:2 and thus sealed the Norwegian's set deficit.
The fact that Ruud had to defeat a strong opponent in Monfils was recently confirmed not only by star coach Günther Bresnik, who even believes Monfils can still win the 1000 title . The 54th in the ATP ranking continued to show his solid game at the start of the second set and also won the long rallies. But the top 10 player also increased his level. The tiebreak decided the second set, in which Casper Ruud made almost no errors.

This broke the resistance of the Frenchman, who conceded the break early in the third set, which the 25-year-old Norwegian couldn't let go of. After 2:29 hours of play, Casper Ruud used the first match point to win.
In the quarter-finals, the winner of the game between Djokovic's conqueror Luca Nardi and Tommy Paul is waiting, who will play the Norwegian's opponent immediately after the match.
