Great success for Andrey Rublev : The seventh in the world rankings triumphed at the ATP 250 tournament in Marseille and thus won the ninth title of his young career. In the final, the 24-year-old beat Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-5 and 7-6 (4).
The Canadian, who won his first title at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam last week, started well and immediately took a 2-0 lead. Rublev didn't let that bother him, however, and then dominated the game mainly with his forehand and still won the first round 7:5.
In the second set, Rublev seemed to have already made the preliminary decision with a break to make it 4: 3, but from his point of view Auger-Aliassime turned up the heat again and won three games in a row. After that, the 21-year-old even found a set ball, but Rublev fended it off and prevailed in the subsequent tie-break. After an hour and 56 minutes, the Russian turned his first match point into a 7: 5 and 7: 6 (4) win.
Rublev is therefore traveling to the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai next week with a sense of achievement. Auger-Aliassime will also be honored in the United Arab Emirates.
