Sunday would have been the best day of his career, said Félix Auger-Aliassime after his first championship on the tour in Rotterdam. It was also one of the Canadian's best in terms of play, who didn't give Stefanos Tsitsipas a chance at 6: 4 and 6: 2. But as it is on the tennis tour: the winners hardly have time to celebrate their triumphs. And the losers soon get a chance to prove themselves all over again.

Two men who Auger-Aliassime sent off as losers en route to winning the tournament in Rotterdam could now face the Canadian in Marseille. On the one hand, this would be Tsitsipas, who leads the tableau from the top, meets Hugo Gaston after a bye.

And then there 's Andrey Rublev , also a Rotterdam victim of "FAA". The Russian wants to roll up the field from below, starting against veteran and local hero Richard Gasquet, who was able to hold his own against Mikael Ymer in lap one.

Auger-Aliassime also has to compete with a Frenchman: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He was able to win the veteran duel against Gilles Simon on Tuesday evening. And with 6: 2 and 6: 4 quite convincing.

In view of this week's competition (a 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro, two 250 tournaments in Delray Beach and Doha), the field in Marseille is exceptionally well occupied, the paths of the players will separate afterwards: Some, like Tsitsipas and Rublev, is drawn to Dubai, while Auger-Aliassime is expected in Acapulco. An increased effort in Marseille could still be worthwhile for the freshly crowned premiere champion: If he triumphed again, Auger-Aliassime would easily jump past Daniil Medvedev in second place in the annual ranking. And depending on how Casper Ruud performs in Rio de Janeiro, the ATP Cup winner could even jump to eighth place in the ATP charts.
