Daniil Medvedev celebrated a sovereign first win in Marseille

Daniil Medvedev is back on track after a brief period of weakness. The Russian has recently shown a terrifying performance after his surprisingly clear defeat in the final at the Australian Open in Rotterdam. But now the Russian was able to win his first match since the Grand Slam Down Under, in the second round of the ATP 250 event in Marseille the 25-year-old showed no weakness against Egor Gerassimov and solved with 6: 2 and 6: 4 the ticket for the quarter-finals.

This is an extremely interesting match-up, as Jannik Sinner is one of the most promising stocks in tennis. The 19-year-old South Tyrolean won his second round duel with Hugo Gaston on Wednesday. This is the new edition of the last 16 duel between the two a year ago in Marseille, when Medvedev won in three sets.

Tsitsipas also wins clearly

Also in the quarter-finals is the number two of the tournament, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Australian Open semi-finalist easily prevailed 6: 2 and 6: 3 against Lucas Pouille, who was plagued by injuries. In the quarter-finals, the fifth in the world will meet local hero Pierre Hughes-Herbert, who had no problems with the Briton Cameron Norrie.

The Greek's possible semi-final opponent is another French: Ugo Humbert, who didn't give Jo-Wilfried Tsonga a chance on Wednesday, meets surprise man Arthur Rinderknecht in the quarter-finals and is, as befits his standing, the big favorite. In the upper half of the draw, Matthew Ebden and Karen Khachanov finally complete the quarter-final line-up.
