For the last remaining French starter at the ATP 250 event in Marseille, Benjamin Bonzi, his semi-final duel with Andrey Rublev started anything but as desired. The local hero had to take a break early on, which the Russian was able to confidently transport to win the set 6:3. But Bonzi didn't give up, made the break to 4:3 in the second round and a little later made the set equalization perfect with 6:4.
In the third round, however, it was again the big favorite Andrey Rublev who was supposed to take control. The seventh in the world rankings quickly pulled away to 3-0 - an advantage that Rublev could not resist. In the end, the 24-year-old won his ticket to the final after almost exactly two hours of play with 6: 3, 4: 6 and 6: 3. It is the Russian's first final of the current season.
Auger-Aliassime bends Safiullin
This is now against the man of the hour on the ATP tour: Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Canadian won his first title on the ATP tour in Rotterdam last week - and is now in the final in Marseille.
The youngster had to stretch himself in the semifinals against surprise man Roman Safiullin from Russia, but with six points in a row at the end of set one - 1: 4 make 7: 4 in the tie-break - and another nerve-racking tie-break in round two, the 21st -year-old finally made it into the final. The second already in series.
