Zverev started like the fire brigade, got the first break of the game in the first game. In view of the strength of the German's serve in the tournament so far, something like a small preliminary decision. Which got much bigger when Zverev immediately added another break and after less than half an hour secured the first set with 6: 2.

Same game in the second round, again it was the German who should break early against Andrey Rublev, who seemed overwhelmed. The fifth in the world rankings promptly added another and moved away to 5: 2. Although his Russian opponent managed a rebreak, this Zverev could not cause lasting insecurity. The German put another break afterwards and made the 6: 2 and 6: 3 triumph perfect.

Zverev on the trail of Boris Becker

Alexander Zverev is the first German after Boris Becker to win the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati. Before the 2021 edition, the native of Hamburg had not won a match in Ohio.
