Prestige success for Andy Murray : The Scot beat Stan Wawrinka in a duel between two Grand Slam champions in the first round in Cincinnati 7: 6 (3), 5: 7 and 7: 5. The world number 47 needed for the hard-fought victory on the center court in Ohio. two hours and 57 minutes.
After neither player managed to break in the first set, Murray kept the upper hand thanks to a strong tie break. In the second round, Wawrinka took the serve from his opponent at the crucial moment to make it 7:5. The Swiss transported the momentum into the decisive section and quickly took a 2-0 lead, but Murray fought back and finally managed to win the game.
Norrie defeats Rune
In the second round, Murray meets Cameron Norrie, who beat Holger Rune 7: 6 (5), 4: 6 and 6: 4. So while things went according to plan for the Brits on Monday, the Americans had little reason to celebrate: Only John Isner (7: 6 (11), 3: 6 and 7: 6 (4) against Benjamin Bonzi) drove a win On the other hand, Brandon Nakashima (5:7 and 5:7 against Aslan Karatsev) and JJ Wolf (6:7 (2) and 2:6 against Emil Ruusuvuori) had to admit defeat.
