Borna Coric achieved his greatest career success in Cincinnati. The 25-year-old prevailed in the final against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 7: 6 (0) and 6: 2 and thus secured his first title at ATP Masters 1000 level. Overall, the Croatian won his third tournament in Ohio.
The start for Coric in the final was anything but ideal, as he was quickly confronted with a 1:4 deficit. However, the Zagreb man fought back and secured the first set in the tie-break. In this Coric - also thanks to the strong help of his opponent - did not give up a point.
Coric seeded at US Open
At the beginning of the second round, Tsitsipas missed three breakballs in a row, Coric did better in the sixth game and took the serve from the 2021 French Open finalist to make it 4-2. A little later, the Croatian converted his second match point to a 7: 6 (0) and 6: 2 success.
Coric, who had eliminated 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal on the way to the title in the second round , crowned his dream week with tournament victory and reported back impressively after his shoulder surgery in May of the previous year. A positive side effect for the 25-year-old: He will start the US Open, which begins on August 29th, as a seeded player.
