Dominik Koepfer (Furtwangen), who moved up as "Lucky Loser" and who had eliminated Jan-Lennard Struff from Warstein at the beginning, lost to Pablo Carreno Busta (Spain / No. 7) 4: 6, 2: 6 on Wednesday.

Koepfer had slipped into the peloton because the Australian John Millman had to cancel his participation due to an ankle injury. He kept up well against Carreno Busta, but he didn't use any of his seven break opportunities.

In addition to Koepfer and Struff, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (Hamburg / No. 3) will take part in the preparatory tournament for the US Open (August 30th to September 12th). After a bye at the start, he meets Lloyd Harris from South Africa.
