Auger-Aliassime is only slowly gaining momentum this season after his strong end of the season in 2022, and he is now in the round of 16 at the Masters tournament in Indian Wells. Not without problems: He won against Francisco Cerundolo 7: 5, 6: 4, had to put up with a chin injury in the first round (inflicted with his own racket) - and in the second set almost turned the lap of honor again after he had already had a double break had led, but the Argentine still had chances to equalize 5:5.
In the end, however, "FAA" closed the sack with the sixth (!) match point. Opponent now: Tommy Paul, last finalist in Acapulco. The American beat Hubert Hurkacz 4: 6, 6: 2 and 6: 4.
Later at the start of the tournament in the Californian desert: Stan Wawrinka (against Holger Rune), defending champion Taylor Fritz (against Sebastian Baez) and the top seeded Carlos Alcaraz (against Tallon Griekspoor).
