Taylor Fritz against Ben Shelton, the defending champion from Indian Wells against one of the climbers of the (last) year, that's definitely the game that in the second round of the first ATP Masters tournament of the season is of most interest to the locals fans wake up. After Fritz's surprising triumph almost twelve months ago, the top male stars in the USA are once again making higher demands.

This was recently seen at the Australian Open, where Tommy Paul reached the semifinals. Or Ben Shelton the quarterfinals. And in Melbourne, Jenson Brooksby had managed to beat the number two of the tournament, Casper Ruud. That Jenson Brooksby is missing from the Indian Wells tableau. The reason? The youngster had to undergo surgery on his left wrist in Los Angeles.

The good news is that Brooksby, who playfully looks like a revenant of Florian Mayer, does most of the work on the court with his right hand. A break of ten to twelve weeks is probably the order of the day.
