The match started poorly for Andrey Rublev. A long service game did not bring the eighth-ranked player in the world to the finish. However, he managed to break back immediately after a few backhand duels. Both opponents then didn't allow anything for a long time. When the score was 4:5, Rublev then increased the pressure, scored the second break to zero and secured the set lead after a backhand error by Taylor Fritz.

Andrey Rublev stayed true to his line in the second period and controlled the match from the baseline in the decisive phases. As the game progressed, Taylor Fritz was unable to free himself from the increasingly competitive Russian. The break to 4:2 decided the match and the 15-time winner on the ATP Tour was able to receive congratulations on his victory from the crowd after 74 minutes of play.

Andrey Rublev can win second Masters title

This means Andrey Rublev is in the final in Madrid for the first time and in his fifth final at Masters level. After his triumph in Monte Carlo last year, the 26-year-old can win his second Masters title. His opponent on Sunday is the winner of the second semi-final between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jiri Lehecka. A Masters final would be a first for both players.
