Daniel Altmaier is still unstoppable at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. The German lucky loser against local hero Jaume Munar left no doubt about who would be the first player to book a place in the quarterfinals. Altmaier won 6-3 and 6-0 and now meets either Borna Coric or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Altmaier had moved up late in the tableau for the injured Pablo Carreno Busta - and after a bye had won first against Oscar Otte and then against Yannick Hanfmann in two sets. The German Davis Cup player only needed 85 minutes for the coup against Munar.
From a German perspective, Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff still have the chance to follow Altmaier into the quarter-finals today. Zverev meets Carlos Alcaraz, Struff faces Argentinian Pedro Cachin.
