Alexander Zverev missed a great chance: The German number one lost to Casper Ruud for the first time in the third comparison and missed the semi-finals with 3: 6, 6: 1 and 3: 6. The Argentinian surprise man Francisco Cerundolo is now waiting for Ruud there. The latter had benefited from Jannik Sinner's abandonment earlier on Wednesday.
Ruud used his chances better than Zverev in the first set and won a round against the native of Hamburg for the first time. In the second act, Zverev seemed to straighten things out. But had to give up his serve again in the decision. In this phase, Casper Ruud was particularly convincing with his forehand and took a 4-1 lead.
Ruud ends the match with an ace
In the seventh game, a small door seemed to open for Zverev, Ruud invited him to 15:30 with two simple mistakes. And still won the service game. After 1:38 hours of play, Ruud sealed his first entry into the semi-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 tournament on hard court with an ace.
This Thursday, Daniil Medvedev has the chance to jump back to the top of the ATP world rankings in the third of four quarterfinals. To do this, Medvedev must defeat defending champion Hubert Hurkacz . Miomir Kecmanovic and Carlos Alcaraz then decide the last place in the semi-finals.
