With the score at 6:4 and 2:5 from Matteo Berrettini's perspective, it looked as if the Italian would have to give up his match against Andy Murray. Berrettini was struck by an attack of dizziness and had to be briefly treated by the tournament doctor. Surprisingly, the game continued. And in the end it was Murray who moved into the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami with 4:6, 6:3 and 6:4 after 2:48 hours of play. There it is against the Argentinian Tomas Etcheverry.
For Berrettini it was only his second tournament appearance after a six-month injury break. Last week he made his comeback at the strong Challenger in Phoenix, only failing in the final against Nuno Borges. By the way, the Portuguese was eliminated against Thiago Seyboth Wild almost at the same time as Berrettini. For Matteo Berrettini it continues on clay. German tennis fans can look forward to the Roman's appearance in Munich.
In another afternoon match, Tomas Machac was able to win in two sets against the 16-year-old American Darwin Blanch. Machac now has to face Andrey Rublev.
Andrea Vavassori made it clear that the duel was purely Italian: After the 6:2 and 6:2 against Pedro Cachin, Vavassori will play against Jannik Sinner in the second round.
