Jannik Sinner couldn't go to the limit in the Miami final

Jannik Sinner will probably give this balance sheet something to think about. Six defeats in six encounters - for the young South Tyrolean, Daniil Medvedev is exactly what you call a feared opponent. Especially since the Russian stopped the 21-year-old twice in a row in finals. In Miami, for example, on the way to his first triumph at the ATP Masters 1000 level.

Now Sinner, who won an epic fight against Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals, didn't seem to be at 100% physically either. Especially from the end of the first set, the South Tyrolean's movements were no longer as fluid as one was used to from the previous matches in the Hard Rock Stadium. The reason: Sinner went into the final battered.

struck sense

"It was a positive month for me, although I'm obviously disappointed with today's defeat," said Sinner after defeat number six against Medvedev. "I didn't wake up well, I felt a bit sick, but I tried to go out on the pitch and give myself a chance. Today wasn't my day."

Now it is important to draw the right conclusions from the defeat - and to prepare as best as possible for the clay court season. "I think I'm better on hard courts, to be honest," explained Sinner. After all, he played and trained on this surface from an early age. "In the past few years I've also played well on clay, but I think my game is better on hard court," said the Italian.

However, he is fully aware that he has a feared opponent in Daniil Medvedev. "Even today I had the feeling that the possibilities are there, that's positive. Every player has one or two opponents with whom he doesn't feel comfortable. I still have to improve to beat him," explained Sinner.
