Casper Ruud just doesn't want to get going in 2023. While the Norwegian had reached two finals in Grand Slam tournaments and the final of the Nitto ATP Finals in the previous season, Ruud has fallen far short of his expectations this season. In Miami, too, the fourth in the world rankings did not manage to win two games in a row.
The Norwegian had started the tournament quite well: Casper Ruud had no problems with Ilya Ivashka in round one and also started against the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp with a won opening set. But then the thread broke at number three of the tournament. Van de Zandschulp bought his ticket for the round of 16 with a 3: 6, 6: 4 and 6: 4 success.
Sinner vs Rublev
In this, the Dutchman has to deal with Emil Ruusuvuori, who put Zverev conqueror Taro Daniel in his place in two sentences. Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev are also in the round of 16 - the Italian didn't give Grigor Dimitrov the slightest chance on Monday night and won clearly 6: 3 and 6: 4. Andrey Rublev made his duel with Miomir Kecmanovic even clearer: the Russian won 6-1 and 6-2. In the round of 16 it comes to a hit between Sinner and Rublev.

At the upper end of the tableau, Carlos Alcaraz confirmed his impressive form late on Sunday evening and reached the round of 16 with a two-set victory over Dusan Lajovic. Alcaraz faces local hero Tommy Paul. Youngster Holger Rune is also up against an American in the round of 16: The Dane meets Taylor Fritz.
