Number two seeded Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic crowned a perfect tournament at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami with the title win on Saturday night European time. The two Croatians did not have to give up a set on the way to their first joint title in this category, and also won the final against the two Britons Dan Evans and Neal Skupski extremely confidently.
With 6: 4 and 6: 4, the Croatian duo decided the final for themselves and relegated Evans / Skupski to their places. The two British had played as an unset duo up to the final, had the upper hand in three matches in the championship break, which instead of a third set decides whether to win or lose, during the tournament.
Pavic new number one
For Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic this is the fourth title of the season, the two Croatians also triumphed in Rotterdam after two victories at the start of the season. At the Australian Open, however, there was a narrow semi-final defeat against Dodig / Polasek. It didn't take them long to adjust to each other: It's the first season that Mektic competes alongside Pavic.
In the previous year Pavic had started together with his long-term partner Bruno Soares, Nikola Mektic served alongside the Dutchman Wessley Koolhof. And crowned the partnership last year with a triumph at the Nitto ATP Finals in London. With the victory in Miami, Mate Pavic and Nikolas Mektic can celebrate another milestone: The Croatians will be ranked first in the world on Monday.
