The match started very badly for Medvedev, who had to give up his first service game. Hurkacz had opportunities to add another break when the score was 4:1. However, the defending champion did not succeed - and Medvedev actually managed to equalize in the tenth game. The first round was decided in a tie-break - and Hurkacz was ahead with 9:7.

In the second act, Hurkacz set the first exclamation mark again - by getting the breakzum 3:2 in a true marathon game. After the seventh game, the physio had to be on the court and the match could be continued after a short break. But Medvedev shouldn't win a game anymore. after a playing time of 2:04 hours Hurkacz moved into the semi-finals.

Djokovic remains at the top of the world

With his second success in the fourth comparison with Medvedev (the first was in Wimbledon last year), Hurkacz ensured that Novak Djokovic will remain number one in the ATP world rankings from next Monday. Daniil Medvedev should have reached the semi-finals for a change at the top in Miami.

In the last quarter-finals of the day, Carlos Alcaraz and Miomir Kecmanovic will face each other in the night session (live on TV and live stream on Sky from 1 a.m.). A semi-final is already certain at the second 1000 event of the year: there surprise man Francisco Cerundolo meets Casper Ruud. The Norwegian defeated Alexander Zverev in three sets in the quarterfinals.
