Stefanos Tsitsipas has reached the third round in Miami

Of course, Stefanos Tsitsipas was never really in danger in round three. The Greek had surprisingly lost set two against local hero John Jeffrey Wolf 6:7 (5), but then went up a gear again and finally booked his ticket for the 6:4, 6:7 (5) and 6:1 third round. In this, Tsitsipas meets the Australian Alex de Minaur, who had no problems with compatriot Jordan Thompson.

Also in round three is the Indian Wells semifinalist Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard, who has been in excellent form so far in 2022, did not show any weaknesses in his opening match in Miami, defeating Hungarian Marton Fucsovics safely in two sets. And is now waiting for a former Grand Slam champion. In round three it is against Marin Cilic, who literally swept Alexei Popyrin off the field.

Spent day for Canadians

For the two Canadian figureheads Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime, this Saturday (local time) should be a wasted day: while Auger-Aliassime had to give up without a chance against Miomi Kecmanovic, Denis Shapovalov also suffered a surprisingly clear defeat against Lloyd Harris . Harris now meets Yoshihito Nishioka (three-set win against Dan Evans), Kecmanovic has to deal with local hero Sebastian Korda. The American defeated Albert Ramos-Vinoals in three sets.

Already on Saturday evening (CET), the current world number two, Daniil Medvedev, was able to buy his ticket for the third round. The Russian defeated Andy Murray reasonably safely in straight sets. Defending champion Hubert Hurkacz is also in round three after a two-set win over Arthur Rinderknech. Meanwhile, Indian Wells winner Taylor Fritz had to work hard against Mikhail Kukushkin, but ultimately got the upper hand in three sets.
