Who doesn't remember the quizzical looks Rafael Nadal sent towards his box against Taylor Fritz in last year's Wimbledon Quarterfinals? Should I continue - or rather give up? The Spanish matador opted for an interim solution that was only partially satisfactory: Nadal served the American in an Instant Classic from the tournament. But then could not compete against Nick Kyrgios in the semifinals.

Perhaps also because of this experience, Rafael Nadal is currently exercising particular caution. Because the message that he would definitely start at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo could not and did not want to be left uncommented by the 22-time major champion.

Nadal record winner in Monte Carlo

"I don't know who shared this information," Nadal told Spanish Marca. "But of course: if it were true, I would also confirm that. But unfortunately I can't. I'm training according to my program and I don't know when I'll be playing again. That's the truth. In the current phase, the load increases. If I knew when I would come back, I would say so too.”

Most recently, Rafael Nadal was in action at the Australian Open, but lost there early on to Mackenzie McDonald. In Monte Carlo, the Spanish legend is the superior record winner with eleven titles. However: Nadal has not been successful in the Principality since 2018.
