The field of qualifiers for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo is large - but you only need two wins to get a place in the main field. And Dominik Koepfer and Yannick Hanfmann have already successfully taken the first step.
Particularly noteworthy is the performance of Hanfmann. Yesterday he played at the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Cagliari. And, less than 24 hours later, he beat Jiri Vesely, who was third, 7: 5 and 6: 3. Koepfer started the qualification as the top seed. And won against Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6: 3 and 6: 4. Hanfmann meets Alexei Popyrin on Sunday, Koepfer has to deal with Juan Ignacio Londero, who was able to assert himself against Mischa Zverev.
Somewhat surprising was Bernard Tomic's victory against Pierre-Hugues Herbert. The Australian, given a wildcard by the organizers, is playing against Salvatore Caruso for a spot in the main field.
