Taylor Fritz is in the semifinals in Monte Carlo

Nothing will come of the triple for Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo. The Greek, who had won the individual title in the principality in the past two years, was defeated by Taylor Fritz 2:6 and 4:6. Only in the second set was there some tension when Tsitsipas made the re-break to 4: 4. But Fritz immediately fought back and made it into the semi-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 tournament on sand for the first time. The American was already successful on hard court in Indian Wells last year.

In the semi-finals, Fritz is now up against Andrey Rublev, who was able to hold his own against Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1 and 7-6 (5) in the first match of the day. Rublev was in the final in Monte Carlo two years ago, but lost there to Tsitsipas.

In the lower half, the quarterfinals are still to come. First, Holger Rune meets Zverev conqueror Daniil Medvedev. And at the end of Friday there is an Italian meeting between Lorenzo Musetti and Jannik Sinner. Musetti had cheated Novak Djokovic in the round of 16.
