On Friday afternoon, just a few minutes before Alexander Zverev 's opening match at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome, there was not a single free seat left in the depths of the Pietrangeli. This was not surprising, as the German Olympic champion is seeded third in the Italian capital behind Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.

The fifth-ranked player in the world ultimately lived up to his role as favourite against Aleksandar Vukic without any major problems. Zverev showed a good performance against the Australian, especially in the first set, and deservedly won 6-0 and 6-4 after around 80 minutes of play.

While Zverev had everything under control in the opening set, the match was much more balanced in the second set. However, with the decisive break in the tenth game, the 27-year-old dashed all of his opponent's hopes.

In the third round, Zverev will, somewhat surprisingly, not have to face Mariano Navone, who has been playing well recently. The Argentinian lost to the Italian Luciano Darderi with a clear 3:6 and 2:6.
