Little by little, the empty stadiums are filling up again: in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, practically all important tennis tournaments were held in front of empty spectator stands, if they took place at all. And last season too, tough restrictions for the fans were commonplace.
At the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome 2021, only a small number of live audiences were allowed in the Foro Italico. While the first two rounds took place in front of empty seats, 25 percent of the seats in the Campo Centrale could be occupied from the round of sixteen. With a capacity of 10,400 people, it's actually a sad affair.
Italian Ministry of Health gives the green light
In 2022, however, everything can go back to how it used to be: As confirmed by the Italian Ministry of Health, 100 percent of the capacity can now be used again for both outdoor and indoor events. The prestigious Clay Court Masters event can thus open the gates wide - Tifosi and other tennis fans will certainly be just as happy as the players who more than deserve a full house.
