Fifth meeting between Casper Ruud and Holger Rune - and for the first time the Dane had the upper hand. Rune won 6:7 (2), 6:4 and 6:42 and will start his second title in the Masters 1000 category tomorrow. Rune drove in the first last autumn in Paris-Bercy. Ruud is still waiting for a win in this category.
After Ruud won the first set in the tie-break, he also managed an early break at the beginning of round two. But Rune equalized to 4:4. And took the momentum with him - even if Ruud had two more breakballs to make it 5: 4.
Rune creates the turnaround
In the deciding set Rune started better under again difficult conditions and quickly led 4:1. Ruud never recovered from this and gave up his serve again at the very end. After 2:42 hours of play, Holger Rune was allowed to celebrate.
The second semi-final is now contested by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev. While Tsitsipas reached the final in Rome last year (and lost it to Novak Djokovic), Medvedev's final appearance would be a first. In fact, the Russian hasn't won a single match in Foro Italico before this year.
