Just one day after the final in Madrid, the draw for the next ATP Masters 1000 tournament took place in Rome. Top seed in the Italian capital is Novak Djokovic, who returns to the tour in the Eternal City after an injury break.
After a bye, Djokovic meets Luca Van Assche or Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the beginning. According to paper form, the first seeded opponent of the 22-time Grand Slam winner would be Grigor Dimitrov in round three. In the quarter-finals, the Serb could meet Holger Rune, who is seventh. Meanwhile, Andy Murray and Fabio Fognini have an exciting first-round duel.
In the second quarter of the tournament, the scheduled quarterfinals are Casper Ruud against Jannik Sinner. Alexander Zverev ended up in the third quarter and opened against David Goffin or Luca Nardi. After that, Hubert Hurkacz could already wait before meeting Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16.
Madrid winner Carlos Alcaraz starts the tournament as number two and meets Albert Ramos-Vinolas or Francesco Passaro at the start. In the quarterfinals, the 20-year-old, who will be number one in the world again after the event in Rome, is threatened with a duel with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The final in Rome will take place on May 21st. The big absentee this year is ten-time champion Rafael Nadal. The 36-year-old Spaniard is still suffering from the aftermath of a hip flexor injury and is hoping to recover in time for the French Open in Paris.
