Maxime Cressy on serve - a double-edged sword

French-born American Maxime Cressy has a lot to offer on the tennis courts of the world. Because only a few players in the ATP ranking rely on an aggressive serve-and-volley game as often as the 25-year-old from Paris. The matches of the late professional - Cressy only joined the ATP tour at the age of 21 - are real eye-catchers from time to time, but sometimes on a rather modest level.

Especially at the opening of the rally, last year's Newport winner often puts everything in the balance. Full risk on the first and second serve is simply part of Cressy. And if you risk a lot, you can win a lot, but you can also lose a lot. In any case, the (over) courageous serving has the world number 36. set a new record - a record, however, that no tennis professional will want to fight for.

11 double faults per game

Since his first-round loss at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Dubai, Cressy has been at the top of the list of players who made the most double faults in a match to win two sets. The almost two-meter man missed two consecutive serves against Félix Auger-Aliassime an incredible 25 times. Although Cressy had previously held the dubious top position (23 double faults in Melbourne 2021), at that time it was still ex aequo with the Argentinian Federico Coria (23 double faults in Monte Carlo 2006).

Another statistic proves that the American's serve problems are not the only negative outliers, according to which Cressy has served an average of eleven double faults per match since the beginning of the 2023 season. You might think you can overdo it with the risk...
