There is a very big rivalry in the making: Because Jannik Sinner equalized with his 6: 7 (4), 6: 4 and 6: 2 in the internal balance with Carlos Alcaraz to 3: 3, at the same time ensured that Novak Djokovic next Monday will be number one in the ATP world rankings again. To keep this position, Alcaraz would have had to defend his title in Miami. For Sinner, against Daniil Medvedev on Sunday, there is a second chance to win the ATP Masters 1000 event in Florifda. Two years ago he failed in the final against Hubert Hurkacz.
However, the prospects for the 21-year-old South Tyrolean are not rosy: Sinner has lost all five duels with Medvedev so far. Most recently, the two faced each other in the final in Rotterdam.
But that shouldn't spoil the anticipation for Sinner after his grandiose performance on Friday evening in Miami. Especially since he had to fend off two breakballs in the second set when the score was 3:4. If Alcaraz had struck on this occasion, who knows whether the Spaniard would not have made it into the final.

"It means a lot to me," explained Jannik Sinner on the court after the match. "We both played tennis at a very, very high level again. In the third set I saw that he had problems in a few games, I wanted to attack. We both tried to play very aggressively. And today it went my way. I'm very happy."
