In 2017 Alexander Zverev won the second title of his career in Montpellier, five years later it didn't work out with number 20. Zverev lost to Alexander Bublik 4: 6 and 3: 6. For the Kazakh it was the first championship ever.
Bublik put the first pinprick and took a 3-2 lead with a break. Zverev immediately equalized, but gave away the service game to 4: 5 with a few slight mistakes. Bublik wanted to show his gratitude immediately, but Zverev couldn't use a 15:40. The 4:6 meant the first set loss for the tournament's number one in the tournament week.
Bublik also had early opportunities for a break in the second round, but Zverev maintained his serve to make it 2-1. A few moments later the time had come: Bublik took the lead 3:2. Bublik couldn't take that anymore and ended the match with the second break to 6:3.
