The German Olympic jersey has now almost become Alexander Zverev's second skin. The gold medal winner from Tokyo 2021 also likes to wear his long-sleeved shirt with the national colors on the MTTC Iphitos facility, for example at the presentation of the winning car on Friday. Zverev has already been allowed to drive one off the system twice, in 2017 and 2018 it was. It's been a while, too, last year Zverev surprisingly lost to Ilya Ivashka in Munich.

In the current season, Zverev has not yet been able to lift a winner's trophy, the reasons for this are extremely different: at the Australian Open he simply had a bad day against Denis Shapovalov, in Acapulco Zverev was known to be sent off the field, in Miami he again countered Casper Ruud doesn't look completely healthy. The only clay court appearance of the year went well until the semi-finals in Monte-Carlo, then Zverev had to pay tribute to the strain and his tense thigh from the game against Jannik Sinner in the match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Zverev will probably start on Wednesday
Does Zverev still start in Munich as the big favorite? Without doubt. Because with each of his defeats this year (e.g. in Indian Wells against Tommy Paul) one could not shake the impression that Zverev lost these games rather than that his opponent had won them. The exception might be the Tsitsipas game in Monte Carlo.
The draw in Munich is interesting from Zverev's point of view. He will definitely open against a youngster, either Jiri Lehecka or Holger Rune. Daniel Evans would wait in the quarterfinals, but there could also be a meeting with the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori. According to the seeding list, Alexander Zverev can compete with Reilly Opelka in the semifinals, the programmed endgame offers the chance of a revenge with Casper Ruud.
But Zverev can still get used to the conditions in Munich in a relaxed manner. His first mission is scheduled for Wednesday.
