The tournament week in Munich has found its winner: Holger Rune, who entered the tournament with a wildcard and defeated Alexander Zverev in the round of 16, celebrated his first title on the ATP tour. Final opponent Botic van de Zandschulp had to take a longer medical break when the score was 4:3, after which the Dutchman tried to continue playing for a short time. But in vain: van de Zandschulp had to give up in his first final on the ATP tour.
For the first tournament win by a Dane since Kenneth Carlsen's success in Memphis/USA in 2005, Rune received prize money of 81,310 euros and a BMW i4 - the 19-year-old, who only received a cake on the center court from tournament director Patrik Kühnen on Thursday for his birthday, but does not yet have a driver's license.
Before the singles final, the spectators in the packed stands at the MTTC Iphitos were able to celebrate a home win. Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies beat Rafael Matos and David Vega Hernandez 4:6, 6:4 and 10:7 and won their fifth title together.
