It can go that fast at the ATP - or not: While it was noted in the Rankings Breakdown last week that the points won in Indian Wells in 2019 will be carried through to March 2022, the date of the deletion has now been changed to Early October 18, 2021. So to the day after a new champion will be crowned in Indian Wells. At least that's guaranteed. Because no participant in the men has been able to win the tournament to date.
Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer, for example, are directly affected, with 500 and 300 points respectively falling out of the ranking. For both players not too big a leg break, they will start with a protected ranking on their return. However, this is not used for setting tournaments.
Medvedev loses points from Shanghai
Casper Ruud , who celebrated his fifth tournament victory in 2021 in San Diego last Sunday, is guaranteed to overtake Roger Federer. And with a reasonably successful tournament, it could also overtake Dominic Thiem. Ruud starts sixth in Indian Wells after a walk-through to either Llyod Harris, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Steve Johnson.
Furthermore, the 1000 in Shanghai (the last winner in 2019 was Daniil Medvedev ) and the 500 in St. Petersburg (last champion: Andrey Rublev 2020) will no longer be carried out. As well as the points from Antwerp 2019 (winner Andy Murray ), Moscow 2019 (winner Rublev), Stockholm 2019 (winner Denis Shapovalov ), Cologne 1 2020 (winner Alexander Zverev ) and Sardinia 2020 (winner Laslo Djere).
