Carlos Alcaraz toasts to a tournament win again

Today, April 25, 2022, Carlos Alcaraz is among the top ten in the ATP rankings for the first time. A reward for three major titles this season: Alcaraz won the 500 tournaments in Rio de Janeiro and yesterday in Barcelona, as well as the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami. The soon to be 19-year-old Spaniard is moving into the top tier of tennis exactly 17 years after his compatriot Rafael Nadal. And with the 500 points from Barcelona, he also consolidated his third position in the annual ranking, the Race to Turin.

There have been no shifts among the players currently ahead of Carlos Alcaraz. Novak Djokovic leads the world rankings ahead of Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev . Only Andrey Rublev came closer toCasper Ruud , who was seventh, with his triumph in Belgrade.

Thiem this week in Estoril

Dominic Thiem is facing hard times: The Austrian slipped 39 positions in the charts to 93rd place and urgently needs to score points in Estoril this week. As also afterwards in Madrid and Rome. At the two traditional events, Dominic Thiem already has to use his protected ranking. With his victory at the Challenger in Prague, Sebastian Ofner has again played among the top 200 professionals - the Styrian is currently ranked 188th.

From a German perspective, Oscar Otte with 62nd place and Daniel Altmaier with 65th place can look forward to new career records. Both are engaged in Munich this week. Altmaier has the difficult task of opening against the three-time champion at MTTC Iphitos, Philipp Kohlschreiber.
