One of the basic rules in the tennis circus is that once points have been won, they have to be defended twelve months later. If you don't make it, you fall behind in the charts. And some other players move forward without having done much: This explains why Dominic Thiem is suddenly among the top 100 professionals in the world again, despite his defeat against Soonwoo Kwon in the first round of qualification for Adelaide 1. Strictly speaking at position 97.

On the other hand, nothing has changed at the front. Carlos Alcaraz, who will miss the Australian Open due to injury, still leads ahead of Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud. Adelaide champion Novak Djokovic is currently fifth behind Stefanos Tsitsipas, followed by Andrey Rublev.

But there are also a few new career highs to be applauded: Lorenzo Musetti is listed among the 20 best players in the world for the first time (19th place). Yoshihito Nishioka has never been higher than his current rank of 33rd. Scott Draper has climbed to 40th, Marc-Andrea Huesler to 55th.

Bernabe Zapata Miralles has reached a new level with position 71 as well as Jason Kubler at number 86 and Ben Shelton at number 92.
